Sculpture by Anthony Villis U.S.A.
1976
Los Angeles sculptor Anthony Villis worked almost exclusively in high-fired stoneware, but none of his ceramic objects were vessels in any useful sense. This enigmatic piece, looking like an orphaned mechanical component, or perhaps a scale model of a section of the Paris Metro, is representative.
Signed with Villis' "AV" device, dated, and numbered "118" (not an edition number -- as this is a unique piece -- this was the 118th sculpture made by the artist).
