Carved Redwood Wall Relief by Sherrill Broudy U.S.A.
ca. 1962
This panel is actually a grouping of nine smaller panels, which fit together with tongue-and-groove joints, all framed together. California-based Panelcarve (which grew into a more famous company called Forms + Surfaces) produced carved modular panels, mostly made of California redwood, for use as architectural decorations. These particular patterns were designed by Sherrill Broudy, who founded the company with fellow designers Jerry and Evelyn Ackerman.
This piece can be used as a wall decoration -- hung either vertically or horizontally -- or as a door.
The redwood has aged beautifully, with a very satisfying patina.
