"Stria" -- An Oil Painting by Clorindo Testa Argentina
1959
Clorindo Testa is one of the leading modernist architects in South America. Born in 1922 in Italy, Testa has lived in Argentina since his youth. A well-known painter as well as architect, Testa participated in many important international exhibitions, including the Venice Biennale and Expo 58 (the Brussels World's Fair of 1958). Testa created paintings which often reflect the concern for texture and composition found in his many famous buildings, such as the National Library of Argentina, and his masterpiece, the amazing Bank of London building in Buenos Aires.
"Stria" was painted in 1959, and was a part of the landmark exhibition, SOUTH AMERICAN ART TODAY (organized by the Dallas Museum of Art, with the American Federation of Arts), which toured museums around the United States in 1959/1960.
An important example of mid-century South American art.
(The 1959 book, SOUTH AMERICAN ART TODAY, which has an illustrated page devoted to this painting, accompanies the work.)
