"The Cardinal' by Mirko Basaldella Italy
1966
An intimate work on paper by one of Italy's finest 20th century artists, Mirko. A founding member of the "School of Rome" and an artist-in-residence at Harvard until his untimely death in 1969, Mirko was primarily a tireless formgiver, creating some of the most imaginative and original post-war sculpture to come out of Italy.
This piece was formerly in the collection of Dr. Max Stern, the great Canadian gallerist, to whom it was personally inscribed by the artist.
The artwork itself, exclusive of frame, measures 7" tall by 3.5" wide.
